The Leonardo DiCaprio Foundation (LDF), in partnership with the Jane Goodall Institute, is proud to launch a two-week flash sale of exclusive merchandise honoring the five iconic species of apes: gibbons, chimpanzees, bonobos, gorillas, and orangutans.

The statistics on the decline of ape species are heartbreaking. Every species of ape is classified by the IUCN as threatened or worse, with gorillas and orangutans listed as critically endangered.

Human industries like agriculture, logging, oil and gas drilling, mining, dam building, and the construction of new roads, in addition to climate change, have destroyed and fragmented critical ape landscapes. In fact, in the past two decades, nearly half of apes’ natural habitat has been lost. Tragically, apes are also falling victim to illegal trade and trafficking.

If we do not take serious action now, many apes will face extinction in as little as 20 years.

With urgency in mind, LDF supports high-impact projects worldwide through collaborative partnerships with the most effective organizations on the ground. Proceeds from this campaign will support the protection of key ape populations and habitats, with the goal of ensuring great apes’ long-term survival.
